Cypriot team Pafos FC prepare for their first-ever European elite appearance this matchday – merely 11 years since the organization’s establishment.

Over the past few years, the club has generated buzz by entering European tournaments for the initial instance last campaign, advancing to the Europa Conference League last 16 and winning their inaugural league title.

In the current campaign, they have achieved yet one more significant milestone by coming through three stages of UEFA Champions League play-offs to enter the league phase – joining only one other teams, alongside Kazakhstan’s club Kairat Almaty, to enter the competition newly.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Kyiv and Serbian giants Red Star were all beaten by Pafos during the preliminary rounds.

The prize is eight matches in the main round, including a fixture on their turf against Munich and an visit to Stamford Bridge, but they begin with a fixture in Hellenic soil against Greek side Olympiakos this midweek.

Several ex-Blackburn stars took charge, too – former Man Utd player Henning Berg and once at Madrid defender Michel Salgado, who was technical director but also had two interim periods.

And as a player, once in the EPL midfielder Jason Puncheon was at Pafos from three seasons.

The Turnaround Begins During Tenure of One-Time Gunners Staff

Fortunes shifted with the coming of Spaniard Juan Carlos Carcedo in summer of 2023. He had been Emery’s assistant manager at six different clubs, among them the Gunners.
