NFL Roundup: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
During a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 total net yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to drive for a possible winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented after the contest.
